Kane is a marketing promo genius!
We have all heard the comments…the IRT is boring because Kane Waselenchuk winning is almost the “default” outcome. I for one enjoy The Great One’s dominance, but I was there when Hogan dominated his era and people said the same things.
I remember one tournament where Marty had just run the field and after winning his Finals match he looked at the crowd and shrugged asking, “Can’t anyone give me a game?” (Of course he was kidding…)
Kane’s recent unfortunate injury forfeit to Rocky Carson at the Denver T1 stop, while in no way planned, was a stroke of promotional and marketing genius! We now have a real race for the coveted IRT World Championship Title, very similar to the Title race at the close of the 2012 IRT Season. The webosphere is again alive with commentary and opinions, some outlandishly slanderous and ludicrous, but nonetheless they are all talking about RACQUETBALL! Every site from 40By20 to Facebook to our good friends at Restrung are all chiming in on IRT Racquetball and “Can Rocky Win the Title?“
We wish Kane a speedy recovery and we also wish Rocky Carson all the best in his title quest.
For those of you who wonder what an 8-Time US Open Champion and 7-Time World Champion (maybe 8?) will do after racquetball, well I think that sports promo just might be in the cards.
